The Birmingham Institute for Faith and Work
Equipping the followers of Christ to work for the peace and prosperity of Birmingham to the glory of God and for the good of our neighbors.
The word Christian is only used three times in the New Testament, but the word disciple is used 233 times. A disciple is someone who has been taught by another follower of Jesus how to live out their faith in their everyday life. The average Christian in Birmingham will spend around 3000 hours in their lifetime in church, but that same person will spend 80000 hours at work. Sadly, while many people in Birmingham would call themselves Christians, very few have been taught how to live out their faith through their work.
“We need disciples who can represent their king in all of life, including the spheres in which they work, live, and play. The church is to make disciples of Christ who seek to love their neighbors, serve the community through their vocations, show compassion to the poor and marginalized, and witness to the grace of God in Christ. Encouraged by one another we are sent out to be salt and light in the spheres where God has called us.” - Jeremy Treat, Seek First
Problems and Potential
Like every city in the world, Birmingham has both problems and potential. God's plan for his people is to address both.
Listen. Learn. Gather.
We start by listening to pastors, industry leaders, and city stakeholders, then gather Christians to work on what we hear.
The 412 Fellowship
A year-long cohort of Christians from Birmingham's industries, discipled to live out their faith at work.
